Google Genealogy: inurl Operator

Google GenealogyBy Barry J. Ewell

Use the “inurl:” operator to search for a single word or phrase in the url of the search results. You will begin the query with “inurl:.” The Google search query can be written as follows:

  • inurl: (Text)
  • inurl: “(Text) (Text)”

Make sure there is no space between “inurl:” and the following word. When you use this search operator, Google will restrict the results to the pages that have the query word or phrase in the document url. For example, find help for researching World War II military records.

  • World War II intext:”military records” inurl:military
