Recipe: Wartime Fruit Cake

  • 1 cup honey or corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon fat
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped dates, figs, prunes or raisins
  • ¾ teaspoon soda
  • ⅔ cup milk

Cream fat, honey and egg. Sift dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk. Bake in loaf 45 minutes in moderate oven.
